Tattoos and a Flight Attendant Career

Tattoos and a Flight Attendant career

Call me old fashioned, but I’m not a big fan of tattoos. To my generation they were reserved mostly for sailors, and women of dubious backgrounds.

Now obviously, that attitude has changed, and that’s not a bad thing. There have been improvements in inks and colors, and there are some real artists out there who are creating some beautiful masterpieces- albeit not on a canvas some like myself would prefer.

That having been said, if you are thinking about a career as a Flight Attendant- either for a commercial airline (Delta, American, Lufthansa, Cathay Pacific) or for a private or corporate flight operation, your “tats” are going to be a consideration. For the majority of airlines, corporate thinking on the subject of tattoos boarders along the same lines as mine.

Restrictions can vary from airline to airline. Many will say that so long as your tats are not visible while in uniform, then they are fine. So long sleeves can cover the ones on your arms and wrists, and collars and scarfs can cover your neck tattoos- but you will always have to wear those items to cover your art. Keep in mind that some airlines don’t offer long-sleeved uniform shirts, and some even have you wearing shorts.

Now if you have already covered your body with ink, this advice falls along the lines of “too little, too late”. But if you are considering a career that includes traveling the world as an airline Flight Attendant, and you are thinking that Mike Tysons’ face tat really rocks, than consider this some free career advice.

As an example, below are the restrictions for tattoos for Etihad Airlines. For more information on a Flight Attendant career, go to http://www.crew4jets.com.tattoos
